Peel Student Film Festival 2017 Press Release: Peel filmmakers debut their work on the big screen at The Rose Theatre

BRAMPTON - May 23, 2017, The Peel District School Board showcased secondary school films at the sixth annual Peel Student Film Festival at The Rose Theatre in Brampton. Students from across PDSB high schools were at the event, also in attendance were Brampton Mayor - Linda Jeffrey, Caledon Councillor - Annette Groves, Peel District School Board Chair – Janet McDougald and Director of Education for Peel District School Board – Tony Pontes.

The judging panel was made up of recognized media industry representatives, including former Peel student, Jasmeet Sidhu, currently the senior creative producer at MasterClass.com, working with celebrities like Serena Williams, Kevin Spacey and Gordon Ramsay. Post-Secondary schools offering specialized programs in Film, Media and Animation sponsored this year’s prizes and event by providing post-secondary opportunities for winning students. Sponsors included: Brock University, Toronto Film School, Humber College, Seneca College, Trebas Institute, Max the Mutt: College of Animation, Guelph-Humber University and George Brown College. Organizational sponsors include: City of Brampton, Brampton Entrepreneurs, City of Mississauga and Earth Markets.

PSFF had over 200 submissions from secondary students across Peel Region and 800 students in attendance.

The Peel Student Film Festival empowers young artists to express their creativity, entertain audiences, and share their visions for a more just and sustainable world. The festival is a celebration of youth culture, highlighted by the richness and diversity of a new generation of filmmakers. Students won in eight categories of film:
